About

Matthew McKenzie AKA Matt McKnzi is an independent singer-songwriter and actor based in Dallas, TX, known for introspective alt-pop and alternative R&B. He began writing songs while studying Musical Theatre at Emerson College in Boston. After struggling with addiction and getting sober, he committed to music as a primary creative path and has since returned to acting, drawing from lived experience as the foundation of his work in music and on screen.

His debut album, Ghost Stories (May 2024), introduced a cohesive musical universe centered on grief, identity, heartbreak, and resilience. Produced in collaboration with Will Carmack, the project reflects a deliberate, slow-burning creative process that revealed itself over time. “I didn’t start Ghost Stories with a concept in mind. I just knew I needed to put my first album out and tell my story. As I kept writing, I realized I was unintentionally documenting different chapters of my life, including addiction, trauma, toxic relationships, purpose, and the emotional aftermath of it all.”

McKnzi’s music is currently represented by Los Angeles-based sync agency Dawn Patrol for use in film and television. He continues to develop his voice as a songwriter, building a body of work rooted in emotional depth, authorship, and long-term artistic vision and identity.
